In summer of 2023, I had the opportunity to participate in a Nashville Urban Design Studio as a part of one of UT's study abroad programs. As the studio was centered around urban design and planning, this was a new design experience for me. Our class focused on an industrial area in southeast downtown Nashville. The class site was split up into 8 smaller sites, leaving each pair of students with a large block to design. In addition to developing designs for our group's site, we participated in groups of 4 that studied the ecological, cultural, and infrastructural cohesiveness of all sites. I participated in a group that developed a class model, a base map, and large site drawings and diagrams.
Our group's site is located in the southeast corner of the class boundary and is bordered by two existing roads, the Music City Star railline, and Browns Creek.
*This is a group project that is represented as a collaborative effort. Drawings that I completed for our project are bracketed in asterisks in hover captions.

Throughout this project ad my experiences in this study abroad program, my eyes were widely opened to the impact and practice of Urban Design. Since completing this program, I have approached new projects with a different perspective that now considers a wider range of impacts and consequences. While learning to think as an urban designer was challenging at times, it revealed within me a passion for the macro-scale that I didn't realize existed. I hope to encounter more opportunities to think "big" in the future.
