In 1:1 Representation, Aidan and I were challenged to design and produce a 1:1 scale piece of furniture in a couple of weeks. Through multiple physical and digital study models, we arrived to a solution that contains four pieces. Each quadrant can function individually (in a corner), with one other quadrant (against a flat wall), or with all four other quadrants (in a linear or circular shape). Each individual quadrant also has the ability to be assembled or taken apart multiple times, tool free, through the interlocking notches that has been routed into each piece. With convenient assembly and a variety of arrangements, we could envision these easily being mass produced and impactful in educational or lounge settings.
