For this project, our class was given a site in downtown Knoxville (400 W. Jackson Ave) to individually create a 2,000-5,000 sf gallery or museum. We were to use precedents that we studied in small groups in the first phase of the project to influence our design decisions.

The Vagelos Education Center by Diller Scofidio + Renfro had a large influence on the lighting strategies and circulation methods used in this gallery. Prior to beginning our design, two other classmates and I (Aidan Toombs and Savanna Senn) re-created a digital and physical model of the precedent. We used this experience to learn about what works well for Vagelos Education Center and to implement similar strategies in our design work.
